Oceanside, California – 80s

Graphic Design

Oceanside is a beautiful city, with a beautiful ocean front, it also has one of California Missions among other touristy places. I wanted to go a little classical type treatment with this one design.

Oceanside makes me think of saved by the bell, I know it is not in the 80s, but still, the name of that city was Bayside if I remember correctly, so I think that is why I can’t get it out of my head. I did find a random advertisement from the eighties, where I loved the type treatment:

That half s and n in Thompson Twins look soo cool, I just had to use it. Had to adapt it to Oceanside, thinking of sand and waves clashing, here is what I ended up with:

And since I cannot take saved by the bell out of my mind, How about we see it in a backpack?

I have all my inspiration in a pinterest board, if you would like to see it you can visit the board here.

Imperial Beach, CA 80s style

Graphic Design

Continuing these series, this time I tryied to eightify Imperial beach. This city has a very 60’s 70’s vibe, so I hesitated to break my rule and just keep it’s vibe, but this is just for my amusement, so I don’t need to keep it to the city’s vibe, but mine.

They have several sculptures at the beach, and the main one is what you could call surfboards, a bridge (or pier) and the name of the city. I took that sculpture/sign and made the type similar to the walkman, because, it was such and amazing thing at the time.

City of Coronado, eighties

Graphic Design

I just had fun with this one, not trying to emulate anything specific from the eighties, just a gut feeling I guess.

The City of Coronado is an “island” there is some controversy if it is a peninsula or something, I am not sure, it is connected to Downtown by a famous bridge, and to the south part of San Diego county through a long stretch of land. All in all it is surrounded by water, and boats, hence the sail in the shape of the background. I don’t think residents of Coronado might like this as representation for their precious city, but I happen to think it is cool.
